David Gonzales, the creator of Homies, tapped the
experience of his youth to create characters that helped
propel California Latino culture into the nation’s popular
consciousness. First appearing as a comic strip in Lowrider
magazine, then as a T-shirt line for the Hot Topic chain and
later as ubiquitous two-inch plastic toys sold in Wal-Mart
and Safeway grocery store gumball machines, the popular
franchise has now expanded into a video game.

Homies Phone Cards, based on the
images created by Gonzales, are a line of
collectible, prepaid phone cards offered
by KRUSH Communications and targeted
to the Hispanic market.
Unique in the industry, each card utilizes a different
Homies character in a scene. The back of the cards
contain background history to familiarize the customer
with the character. In addition, custom voice prompts
are included to add unique character to each card.
